About Me

Thank you for visiting, you are welcome here, and I hope we’ll become friends. I want to share the books and words that have moved me and delighted me and brought me joy. I’d love to hear your comments on what you got out of a book and to hear your recommendations.

I try to give a book 50 pages before I abandon it, but life is too short and there are too many books to read. I’m a bit of a butterfly in my choices—I settle on whatever I have just had recommended or whatever I see in a bookstore. I love bookstores and libraries—my heart leaps in such places just as it did when I was a child. Maybe it’s because of the infinite possibilities. I tend to rate places I visit by the bookstores they have, so I’ll be commenting on those as well.

As we’ve just come to live here, I’ll be commenting on places of interest too as we explore the area.

After living in the USA for almost half my life, I’m now in the Scottish Borders, or The Marches, as they are known. With the help of my husband, the Engineer, we’ve tamed a garden that had gone to the wild and created a thing of beauty. We’ve created a pretty nice bungalow too. We live about four miles from the coast, and it’s a windy, history-strewn coast, with the Holy Island of Lindisfarne close by and the ghosts of Viking raiders that come in with the haar, or sea mists.
